This one has taken longer than I had hoped, but I’m finally pleased to announce that Curious King Books will be producing legendary Sci-Fi series, the “Hyperion Cantos” by Dan Simmons.
The Hyperion Cantos is widely regarded as one of the best Sci-Fi series of all time, with Dan Simmons receiving a Hugo Award for the first instalment “Hyperion“. Originally published in 1989, “Hyperion” (named after John Keats epic poem) follows the pilgrammage of seven people who have been selected for one last trip to the enigmatic Time Tombs, and is written in a similar style to Geoffrey Chaucer’s “Canterbury Tales“.
We will be beginning our production with a limited edition of this very novel, and illustrating is the phenomenal Jaime Jones.
Jaime Jones is a concept artist who has worked on numerous Hollywood movies (The Batman, Star Wars: The Last Jedi), computer games (Destiny, Hawken) and of course Magic the Gathering. His vision and style will fit incredibly well for Dan Simmons’ universe, and I can’t wait to see what he comes up with.
We have acquired rights to all four books in the series :
Hyperion
Fall of Hyperion
Endymion
Rise of Endymion
I can only share a few details at the moment, but it is currently unlikely that there will be a standard edition for this series due to a myriad of factors. My current plan is to publish the lettered and increase the numbered edition significantly to 300 (numbers 151-300 will only have rights to future Hyperion Cantos books). I understand this will be disappointing for some people, and I haven’t taken this decision lightly. There is however a small glimmer of hope, as if there is overwhelming response to having all four of these books in Standard Edition, i may well revisit this (and reduce the amount of numbered editions down).
Jaime Jones is only confirmed for the first book currently, and we will review each year for each book. He has however comitted to 8 colour plates and 20 B&W sketches for Hyperion and I’m particularly excited about that.
I’m also pleased to confirm that Dan Simmons will be signing both Lettered and Numbered editions (this wasn’t a foregone conclusion, but pleased to secure).
So that’s the announcement. It’s without doubt one of my favourite SFF series of all time, and I’m honoured to take it on!
Aiming for end of Q1 2023 for pre-order.
