I wouldn’t usually release the name of a project so early on in the process, or quite necessarily so quickly after a recent pre-order… but, I HAD to make an exception in this case.
It brings me immense pride to announce that Curious King will be producing a fine press limited edition of Douglas Adams legendary “The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy“. One of the most innovative, humorous and well written Sci-Fi’s of all time. This book is a corner stone of British Literature and has been a part of public school curriculum for decades.
I read this book when I was a teenager and the subsequent novels immediately afterwards and I’ve never read anything quite like it. Sci-Fi’s Terry Pratchett delivers a wonderfully quirky tale about a very ordinary human called Arthur Dent who finds himself without a planet and doesn’t know quite how to feel about it.
Since starting Curious King I’ve barely even believed it possible to secure this title as it felt just too big for a relatively new press from Manchester, England.
I can’t say too much about it at the moment as it’s still very early days, but I can disclose the artist on this project! The incredible Gary Gianni is taking the reigns of this behemoth of English Literature with (provisionally) 8 colour pieces and 25 black and white images throughout it’s 200+ pages. I will also be working with Marcelo Anciano on the interiors, who is another mega fan of this book and will help create the most thought out edition of this book to date.
Yes there will be a Standard Edition, and the only other thing of note is there will be 42 Lettered Editions. This is obvious to most, but a nod to the answer of the ultimate question(!!!) and means that 16 people will have the opportunity to buy this in Lettered form (but doesn’t come with any rights, unless of course I do the others in the series). This will be the original book and not the omnibus edition.
Timelines are very loose right now, but I’d expect to take pre-order in Q4 2023/Q1 2024 with it being delivered late 24/early 25.
I have engaged with the estate and hope to have family involvement as well as a poignant foreword/afterword from a worthy patron!
I know how huge this is in the UK and hope this is as well received elsewhere!
